So, here is the first of several tests of what the Nikon D800 is capable of. First up, Cropping. I shot the image below in the hopes that the bug would actually turn out. It was just a quick shot. I just positioned the focus point over the bug. No tricks. No using live view and zooming in to focus more precisely (which by the way is a nifty trick to use for more exact focus on what you want).
