Typically when a photographer talks about Macro Photography they refer to photographing small objects up close so they don’t appear to be small anymore. This is as non technical of a definition that I can come up with. Most lenses have a minimum focusing distance that limits you from taking pictures in focus beyond its limits. I recommend playing with your lenses to figure out what your minimum focus distance is for each lens, you may find that you can get pretty close without actually purchasing a Macro lens. I have heard of tricks that people can do to make their own macro lens, things like Haje Jan Kamps’ Macro Lens on a budget.
